The ABG: A National Monument

The African burial ground is a very important historical site.It was established around the 17 century until the 19 century.It was refound almost by mistake during a construction project for a federal office building in 1991 of June.

The African burial ground was like a cemetery. Over twenty thousand dead bodies/skeletons were put there during the time of slavery to burry slaves but was found in1991.Approximately four hundred- nineteen bodies were re-discovered!Two hundred of the bodies haven't been touched(disturbed) yet. Children in the time of slavery were treated harshly even though the Dutch depended on slaves for their economy. Over 40% percent of the people there buried were children. To me that's just despicable because they cant handle a job of a slave around the ages of three or four.

The African burial ground project is very important. One reason that It's important is that it commemorates all the slaves that were buried in the burial ground. Also, it shows all the hardship and work that the slaves went through. That's very important because we need to have past knowledge on our past cultures. it makes us more knowledgeable.

In conclusion, there are many secrets and horrifying things about the African burial ground and you need to know about it!
